Food in the Manaslu Circuit

Do you know? Manaslu Circuit trek was a camping trek but recently it upgraded itself from camping trek to a guest house/tea house trek. Meaning if you trek in peak season, you will find good hotels/lodges with good quality foods because most of the professional cooks are hired during peak season.

However, the guest house in the Manaslu circuit is of basic standard type due to off-beaten trail. So, don’t expect too much. Moreover, the cost of food is cheaper at lower altitudes whereas the cost of food gets expensive at higher altitudes. Furthermore, the foods on the menu will be limited as you trek higher.

So, what type of foods you can get during Manaslu Circuit Trek? To know the answer here are the foods lists prepared for you according to the places you will trek.

1) Food in Soti-Khola and Machha-Khola:

Soti-Khola is the first station of Manaslu circuit trek and Machha-Khola is the second station where Machha-Khola is also known as “Fish Stream”.

Similar to Soti-Khola, the food menu in Machha-Khola is also same but with different tastes, all those veg and non-veg trekkers can enjoy all items of food at a quite different price. As we already mentioned, the higher the altitude then higher the price of foods. So, the foods and drinks found in Soti-Khola and Machha-Khola are;

  1. Hot drink: black tea, milk tea, green tea, lemon tea, hot chocolate, ginger tea, mint tea and so on.
  2. Egg: boiled egg, fried egg, veg omelet, tomato omelet, cheese omelet, garlic cheese omelet.
  3. Bread: Chapati and omelet, toast bread and butter or jam or honey, Tibetan bread, varieties of pancakes, porridge.
  4. Soup: chicken soup, mushroom soup, noodle soup, different types of vegetable soups, a chicken noodle soup.
  5. Rice: dal bhat set (national food of Nepal), varieties of fried rice, plain rice with chicken or mix or egg or vegetable curry.
  6. Momo or Dumpling: veg or non-veg momo, veg or non-veg fried momo, cheese fried momo, mix fried momo.
  7. Pasta or Spaghetti: spaghetti tomato sauce, veg spaghetti tomato sauce or cheese, tuna spaghetti tomato sauce, mushroom or mix spaghetti tomato sauce cheese.
  8. Spring Roll: vegetable spring roll, egg spring roll, potato spring roll, vegetable potato roll, vegetable cheese roll, mix cheese roll.
  9. Pasta noodle: fried noodle, egg fried noodle, vegetable egg fried noodle, tune fries noodle, mix fried noodle, vegetable cheese fried noodle.

2) Food in Jagat and Deng:

Here at Jagat, trekkers can find shops and stores & after Jagat, Deng is the next station. Deng is a large village with farmhouses. Here in Jagat and Deng, trekkers can find similar types of foods however in Deng, foods, and drinks might be quite expensive.

The food and drinks found in Jagat are listed below;

  1. Hot drink: black coffee, masala tea, lemon tea, ginger tea, hot milk, black tea, green tea, hot water.
  2. Eggs: cheese omelet, scramble egg, vegetable omelet, tomato omelet, onion omelet, plain omelet.
  3. Pizza: cheese pizza, mushroom pizza, mix pizza, special pizza.
  4. Tibetan bread: plain Tibetan bread, Tibetan bread & honey or egg or cheese.
  5. Chapati: plain chapatti, chapatti & jam or honey or egg or cheese

As Manaslu circuit trek lies between Nepal and Tibet, trekkers can feel an influence of Tibetan culture and civilization. They also can find more Tibetan food from Namrung;

Syala and Sama-Gaun both share the same food and drinks menu. As usual at different prices. The list of food and drink are;

5) Food in Samdo and Dharamsala:

Samdo lies near the route of the Tibet border. Samdo’s villager has a long history of trading with Tibet that is why trekkers can enjoy Tibetan living here. Whereas, Dharamsala has a drier and baren area than Samdo. And at Dharamsala, trekkers might get signs of altitude sickness too.  So, here in Samado and Dharamsala trekkers can find similar drinks and foods with different recipes;

On the way of Bhimthnag trekkers cross the highest pass of this trip. Trekkers can find themselves surrounded by mountains. The types of drinks and foods found here are as follow;

All the prices of foods and drinks are paid in Nepalese rupees. Also, the price of the food and drinks both increases within ten or fifteen days. Whereas, the price differs according to the trekking season also.
