Chisapani Nagarkot Trekking is designed for those people who do not have a long holiday but want to go into the nature close to Himalaya. This is very short trekking around Kathmandu Valley which takes only three days to do. This trekking area falls into the Shivapuri-Nagarjuna National park in the north of Kathmandu Valley situated at an altitude 2,200m above the sea level. It offers a great view of Himalaya, wildlife, flora, and fauna. The wildlife, mostly musk deer, barking deer, wild boar, monkeys, Himalayan black bear, pheasant, and many other birds are seen on the way. This is a core area of cheetah and wild pig too.

You can be on the top of mountain Chisapani 2,200m within 4 to 5 hours walking from a very busy and crowded Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Chisapani offers a great view of Himalaya. Normally, this place is always very cool and quiet.

Nagarkot is another attraction on this short trekking around Kathmandu Valley. Nagarkot is located over 1,900m above the sea level in the east of Kathmandu. This place is busy throughout the year except for the monsoon season. This is a popular destination for the sunset view. Nagarkot also offers a great view of Himalaya.

Best Time For Trekking Around Kathmandu Valley:

The weather in Kathmandu Valley is always heartwarming & perfect. It is possible to trek throughout the year except for the monsoon season(June to September). Generally, there is heavy rainfall during this season which makes it difficult for trekking. However, you can enjoy trekking in this region during the Autumn season(September to November), Winter season(December to February), & Spring season(March to May).

Your Chisapani – Nagarkot trekking starts after breakfast in the morning. A short drive (two hours approximately) brings you at Sundarijal in the North-East corner of Kathmandu Valley. It will offer a climbing uphill right from Sundarijal into a pristine forest of Shivapuri-Nagarjun National park. You will check-in National Park and Mulkharka village. Mulkharka is a small and beautiful village of Tamang tribe. Actually, Tamang people have been living around Kathmandu Valley for a long time.

You will follow uphill all the time to reach the mountain ridge from where you can see North Himalaya region and Kathmandu Valley in the south. A short descend brings you the north side of the mountain and reach to Chisapani for an overnight stop. It will be wonderful trekking all through the jungle. And it feels very different than a city within a couple of hours walk. Normally, Chisapani is always very cool and quite over the mountain. The walking to Chisapni from Sundarijal will be approximately a 14km.

Your morning starts very early. This place always offers great sunrise view. So you will get up earlier and catch a sunrise view over Himalaya. You will have view of Annapurna Himalaya, Manaslu Himalaya, Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal range, Gaurishankar range. After catching the sunrise view, will have breakfast and start trekking to the east direction to Nagarkot. You will have 11km easy walking through the jungle area where you can have big possibilities to see some wildlife. Normally, musk deer, barking deer, wild boar are seen on the way inside the jungle. It will be downhill to Jhule village after walking 11km inside park. Jhule, Chauki Vanjyang, Jaharsing Pauwa, Kattike Vanjyang are beautiful villages on the way to Nagarkot. It will be a short uphill before reaching to Nagarkot.  Nagarkot is popular for sunset view.

Early wake up and catch the sunrise view. Take a breakfast after sunrise view and trek down to Changu Narayan. You will have approximately three hours walking through beautiful Tamang villages. And Changu Narayan is a world heritage site located on the top of the hill in the north of Bhaktapur. You will fall in love with its old art and architecture from ancient Nepal. There is lord Bisnu temple and inscription from the 4th century. You will have private transportation from Changu Narayan to Kathmandu. It’s about a two-hour drive to Kathmandu.
