Langtang Gosainkunda Trek Overview:

Langtang region was long one of Nepal’s most popular destinations on the trekking map until the area was dealt a terrible blow by the 2015 earthquake. Now it’s getting recovered little by little.

Langtang valley is situated in the northeast part of central Nepal, close to Kathmandu around 200km away. In this trek, you can experience deep gorges, rocky terrain, pine forests, yak pastures, insight into Buddhist religious practices, mystical monasteries, picturesque villages, hillside terraces, serene valleys, and breathtaking glaciers. Let’s not forget the beautiful sacred Gosainkunda Lake too which is the treasure of this place.

The journey begins with a long drive down the Trishuli River to Syabrubesi, passing through various farm villages & towns of Ramche & Dhunche which is at 1,960m elevation. The trek begin from Syabrubesi and continue down the Bhote Koshi River, pasing through a few more settlements until we reach to Lama Hotel, where we spend the night.

In this trek, you can hike to kyanjin Ri or Cherko Ri, as well as Langtang Lirung, which are the best places to get a panoramic view of Chimsedang Lekh and Kangjal Himal Naya Kanga (5,844m). You can also get stunning views of the great mountains flanking the Langtang Valley, including Ganchenpo (6,380m), Dorje Lakpa (6,990m), Pemthang Karpo Ri (6,830m), Langtang Lirung (7,245m) and across the northern boundary in Tibet rises the huge massive Shishapangma 8,046 m the last worlds 14th highest mountain.

What makes the Langtang valley trek unique is that you don’t have to trek back to same route like Everest Base Camp Trek route. You get the chance to experience your stay in each places till the final departure.

Langtang Gosainkunda Trek Permits Costs:

The cost of the Langtang Gosainkunda Trek permit includes both the TIMS Card, which costs about USD 20 per person, and the Langtang National Park, which costs about USD 30 per person. Any other fees like government tax and these permit costs are managed by a trekking company like us.

Difficulty & Preparation for Langtang Gosainkunda Trek:

Langtang Gosainkunda is rated as easy to moderate level trek. However, the actual difficulty level depends upon the physical and weather condition. Proper planning for Langtang Gosainkunda trek will never fail and it is also very easy to prepare. During the trek, it is also very rare for trekkers getting an altitude sickness.

First of all, to prepare for Langtang Gosainkunda trek, you need to prepare a packing lists for head wear, body wear, foot wear, gadgets and other accessories.

Your next step is to mentally and physically prepare after getting all of the necessary equipment ready. Since Langtang Gosainkunda is an easy to moderate trip, a basic fitness program would be sufficient. Cardio exercise including running, swimming, hiking, and jogging should be a part of the training program.

The ideal approach to become comfortable to trekking with a backpack is to go on multi-day hikes while carrying a backpack slightly increasing the load day by day. You may occasionally need to carry 5 to 10 kg of load while the porter carries the remaining heavy loads during the trek. Therefore, you should inly bring the necessary items/gears in your backpack rather than bringing heavy and bulky gears.

The last thing left to prepare for Langtang Gosainkunda Trek is planning your trek in best time. Among all the four season, Spring & Autumn season is considered as the best time to trek in Nepal. But given that Langtang Gosainkunda is close to the Kathamndu region, you can go on for a trek even in the monsoon & winter season.

Itinerary

After arrival in Kathamndu, you will be welcomed by Pristine Nepal staff then you will be taken to the Thamel area where you will stay. Thamel area offers various restaurants, trekking equipment shops, store, bars, cafe, souvenier shops, and many more especially for tourists. So, if you get enough time you can roam around for a while.

Our magnificient trip to the langtang Valley & the holy Gosainkunda journey begins with an early-morning drive into the high hills of Syabrubesi. This fascinating drive takes us via numerous farm villages & cities before arriving at warm regions at Trishuli Bazar. After a brief rest, the drive continues to Ramche & Dhunche town, which are cold areas at 1,960m & the entrance to Langtang National Park, respectively.

Dhunche is a significant town in the Rasuwa District & the Langtang region. From here, the journey continues on a downhill with zig-zag road until it ends in the village of Syabrubesi. Overnight stay at Syabrubesi.

From Syabrubesi, walking continues near Riverside & Bamboo Place with a few tea house & lodges before beginning our first day’s hike with a climb that will take few hours. Taking a short break, the journey continue through the Oak forest, & Rhododendron trees before entering a Gorge & following the Langtang River, passing the Glaciers of the Langtang peaks. The trek finish after reaching the Lama Hotel.

After a peaceful night stay at Lama hotel with the sound of river flow, we leave early at mornign from Lama Hotel. The trek begins upward through the narrow valley of dense forest, eventually leading to a lovely place at Ghodatabela (Horse Stable). From this point, we will slowely gain altitude and changes to the temperature.

After a lunch, the trek continue to Langtang Village, a lovely somewhat small settlement of Tamang & Bhatia’s tribe people. Unfortunately, this village has faced the Avalanche & Earthquake in 2015. It is still recovering. Overnight stay in Langtang Village.

Today’s trek is special as you will cross the Kyanjin Ri. Starting early in morning, the trek takes to Kyanjin Gompa in Langtang Valley, where you will trek between short tree lines that fall through the Juniper, Rhododendron, and prickly Burberry plants. Continuing the trek, we will enter the huge, gorgeous glaciel valley among the snow-capped mountians on both side of the valley. You can find a pasture and grazing areas for yaks too.

With the aid and support of Swiss technical assistance, there is a Yak Cheese Factory in Kyanjin which was named after an ancient Gompa (Monastery) close to ruins perched on a rocky moraine ridge top. From here, you will have a beautiful view of Langtang Lirung Glacier & icefall.

Today we will have an acclimatization day however we will take a short trek to the summit of Kyanjin Ri at 4,773m for a greater view. It is very important to acllimatize here in Kyanjin Ri before continuing on to higher terrain near Gosainkunda & above East Laurabina-La Pass. Alternately, ascending to Tsergo Ri at 4,984m offers a breath-taking view of himalayans. To reach Tsergo Ri, we need to climb up to 3-4 hours.

Similarly, Chimsedang Lekh, Kangjal Himal, and a series of peaks surrounding the valley to the south, including Naya Kanga 5.844m are all visible from Kyanjin Hills and Tsergo-Ri Top.

The morning trek leads to a long descent to Lama Hotel via Langtang village and Ghoretabla, passing by Langtang Khola, and then returning to Lama Hotel for an overnight stop after a nice and exciting overnight and rest day at Kyanjin and the lovely Langtang valley.

Morning walks from the Lama Hotel proceed downhill to Bamboo, a little settlement with a few tea shops acting as lodging. Following a brief rest, continue walking past terraced fields of millets, corn, and wheat (depending on the crop season) before climbing a hill to Upper/Thulo Syabru, where you can spend the night in an interesting Tamang village with rows of interconnected homes and an old monastery perched above the village. The 2015 earthquake had an even greater impact on this community.

Today, take a short, picturesque hike uphill. The hike will take you through a dense forest of rhododendron, pine, and hemlock trees and provide you with stunning views of the Ganesh Himal, Manaslu Mountains, and Langtang Lirung. A lovely stroll will take you to Shing Gompa, also known as Chandanbari, where there are excellent lodges, a little cheese factory, and a historic monastery perched atop the settlement.

From here head to our second part of the adventure at Gosainkund and beyond to Kathmandu, the walk continues with a slow climb into alpine woodland reaching higher towards Lauri Binayak West pass at 3,932 m after walking through Cholang Pati and Lauri Binayak.
After a nice walk along with grand views of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung reaching at holy Gosaikund for an overnight stop.
The story and belief of Gosainkund as per ancient Hindu, a vicarage of Lord Shiva (one of three Hindu main gods) believes that this pristine small lake and pond was made by digging with a Trisul (a holy Trident) weapon of Lord Shiva and formed a pond to dilute the poison that he took to save the world.
Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims from India and Nepal visit Gosainkund on full moon day, every year in the month of August, on the auspicious time of ‘Janai Purnima’ festival which is held around holy places of Nepal and India, where Hindu change their holy threads.

Today is a challenging day of this journey because the walk goes to a climb across East Laurabina or Gosainkund pass to reach 4,610 m on the highest point of this journey, following an exciting and interesting stop at holy Gosainkund.
From the top ridge, walk down to the bottom, or Phedi, at 3,730 meters. From there, continue trekking with a few short ascents and descents to Gopte Odar, where you can spend the night while traveling to Kathmandu through the Helambu region. This tiny location is surrounded by juniper, rhododendron, and pine trees.

The Helambu and Kathmandu trails meet here where the morning walk enters the forest and ascends a short distance to Thadepati, which is 3,690 meters above sea level. This scenic area, which has about 5–6 lodges and teahouses, has beautiful views of snow-capped mountains, sloping hills, and a valley. After a pleasant break with views, proceed downhill to Kutumsang village for an overnight stop. This picturesque settlement is home to the Hyalmo people, who share the same culture and religion as the Tamang and Sherpa tribes.

The morning begins with a short descent through farmland and villages into the forest to reach a nice neat village of Patibanjayang; from here, climb for an hour to Chisapani for our final overnight stop on the high hills of the Langtang region. From this lovely scenic hill, our walk brings us closer to the Kathmandu valley’s high ridges of Chisapani. Nowadays, this area is virtually completely surrounded by roadways. But the old trekking trail is still there. The closest hill in the Kathmandu valley on the path to Langtang, Helambu, and Nagarkot is Chisapani village with lovely good lodges, which is situated on a ridge with magnificent surroundings and offers dawn and sunset views across a variety of peaks.

The last day of our trip is a downhill trek through pristine woodland and farmlands, passing through farm settlements near Burlang and Chepu Bhanjyang with views of the Kathmandu Valley in the morning after catching stunning sunrise views across a range of mountains. Our final day’s hike goes downhill to Sundarijal (meaning beautiful water), a stunning and relaxing location with surrounding forests and freshwater streams.
After a wonderful day exploring the high Langtang mountain and valley, our adventure trip closes with a short drive back to Kathmandu. Upon arriving at the hotel, the afternoon is free for personal activities and shopping.
