Annapurna & Khayer Lake Trekking offers views of the world’s 7th highest Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m / 26,795 ft), 10th highest Annapurna (8,091m / 26,545 ft) with Vara Shikar or Annapurna Fang.  Only a few trekkers seldom venture around this beautiful area with the holy glacial lake of Khayar Lake or Vara Pokhari.

The adventure starts with an interesting overland journey to Pokhara, a famous picturesque and tourist destination in all Himalayas. Similarly, it is located on the lap of towering Annapurna Himalaya with pristine Phewa and Begnas Lakes, where many adventures start and end in this scenic Pokhara city.

Khayar Lake Journey:

Our adventure to Annapurna & Khayar Lake Trekking begins with a short drive and then walking into high hills full of glorious mountain views. The walking progress passes traditional farm villages of Gurung and Poon / Magar tribes and into enchanting rhododendron-oaks-pines and fir tree lines forested area.

Our trek leads to scenic Ghorepani and Poon Hill for superb views of the sunrise over a chain of Himalayan peaks from Dhaulagiri-Annapurna-Lamjung Himal to Manaslu range with ever-present Mt. Machhapuchare “Fish Tail”.

After Poon Hill and Ghorepani, our walk leads away from the main popular trekking trail into the remote North on the high Kopra ridges with Dhaulagiri-Nilgiri-A Fang & South at close distance.

From Kopra Ridge visit the holy Lake of Khayar in between high Annapurna South and Vara-Shikar (A Fang) enjoying the marvelous views our return trek leads back on the main trail at Ghandruk and then a short drive brings you to scenic Pokhara with the last overnight stop by the Lake Phewa.

Itinerary

On arrival in Kathmandu received by Pristine Nepal staff and guide for a short drive to your hotel at Thamel in the hub of Kathmandu city, where many hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, pubs, trekking gears shop, departmental stores, Cinema hall, souvenirs shop, travel agencies and other many more are available.

The morning after breakfast our tour guide will receive you for a sightseeing tour around interesting part of Kathmandu, as Kathmandu city a blend of modernization and old lively cultures where you can witness medieval period villages and way of life of the locals as it was for past hundreds of years. Kathmandu valley steeped with ancient history-old traditions full of world heritage sites of Buddhism and Hinduism temples/monasteries. After an interesting tour afternoon free at leisure preparation for Annapurna & Khayar Lake trekking.

Annapurna & Khayar Lake trek starts with an interesting and exciting overland drive on Nepal’s busy highway to reach scenic Pokhara, the journey leads past farm villages and towns with views of mountains. Drive finally reaches Pokhara and then transfer to your hotel near the pristine and beautiful Phewa Lake where most of the nice hotels are located.

Morning a short drive of two hours to Nayapul to begin our trek passing lovely Bhirethati village located by Modi River, from here walk through farm villages coming across trekkers, mules and donkey trains, our route leads to farm areas and villages, waterfalls then reaching at Tirkhedhunga for overnight halt in a nice lodge after a pleasant day walks of a few hours.

Starting the morning walk with a climb on series of stone steps for an hour or more to reach Ulleri village, a moderate size Gurung village with typical traditional Nepalese style slated roofs built of mud/stones. From here walk leads to a slow climb into pristine and cool rhododendron, pine forest area to reach Ghorepani village, located on a high ridge within beautiful rhododendron trees. This village populated by Poon people of Magar tribe, famous and popular spot for Poon Hill view top which is an hour hike with a climb.

Early before the sunrise hike to the top at Poon Hill to catch the striking sunrise over a range of Himalayan peaks of world 7th highest Dhaulagiri-10th highest Annapurna with a range of peaks includes world 8th highest Manaslu with towering Machhapuchare peak “Fish Tail”. After an enjoyable and exciting time with eye-catching views from Poon Hill, head back to Ghorepani and continue downhill walk for an hour to Chitre village, from here our route diverts to complete wilderness leading away from the main trail to Suata village for an overnight stop.

Starting with a gradual morning walk passing farm fields and scattered villages, trekking through enchanting serene rhododendron and bamboo forest, a slow climb uphill through meadow and summer pastures to Chistebung for an overnight stop, a small place with few small huts serving as tea-houses.

From here gaining altitude leaving tree lines behind after few hours of scenic walk reaching at overnight stop at Khair or Kopra Ridge, a scenic spot with the scenery of landscapes along with stunning views of Mt. Dhaulagiri massive range and Vara Shikar (Annapurna Fang), Annapurna South which towers directly from this wonderful spot.

Morning hike to the holy lake at Khayer Lake located at 4,620 m. which is a long walk, but worth the views, the site of religious festival occasion held annually around the month of August and September. Villagers from the surrounding area assemble here to offer prayers to Lord Shiva and bathe in the icy waters, offers sacrifices of sheep and goats.

The morning after an exciting and enjoyable around Khayar glacial lake, walk back to Kopra ridge and then downhill back into forest and tree lines to reach overnight stop at Chistebung.

After a great time around Kopra Ridge and holy Lake of Khayar, morning walk with short climb into a nice grazing areas around summer pasture at Bhaise Kharka, from here descend past grazing lands in the middle of rhododendron forest to our overnight stop at Dobato, a summer pasture with superb views of Annapurna South and Mt. Machhapuchare / Fish Tail peaks.

Morning catching super views of mountains walk downhill into the forested area to reach the main trekking trail at Tadapani village, after a short stop heading downhill at Ghandruk village for overnight in the comfort of a nice and cozy lodge. Ghandruk a large Gurung village, famous as Gorkha soldiers in UK and Indian armies, besides as gallant soldiers they are farmers and Sheppard’s of Tibetan Buddhist religion and origin.

From Ghandruk our last day walk of this marvelous trek leads downhill on stone steps passing farm villages and terraces to reach at the bottom of the hill at Syali Bazaar, and then on winding gradual path into warmer areas reaching at Bhirethati villages, from here another 30 minutes’ walk brings you at the end of the trek at Nayapul for 2 hours’ drive to Pokhara by the pristine Phewa Lake for final last night around Annapurna area.

Depart from lovely Pokhara for interesting and exciting overland journey to Kathmandu after a fabulous time at Annapurna & Poon Hill Panorama trekking, after six hours of nice pleasant ride reaches you at Kathmandu, then transfer to your hotels with an afternoon free at leisure for individual activities and shopping souvenirs.
