The Poonhill trek is a short easy trek and is suitable for those who do not have time for a longer trek and beginner trekkers. On this trek, you will witness the beauty of the dense rhododendron forest, an alluring sunrise view, and experience the culture and traditions of the Magar and Gurung communities.

Note: There are many domestic flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara. It is only 30 minutes flight with US$102 per person one way. A short flight can be an option if you don’t wish for a long day bus drive.

Itinerary

We will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport. Unless you have obtained a visa prior to your arrival in Nepal, you will need to get a visa-on-arrival in the immigration department of the airport. Sometimes, this takes some time due to many tourists, but you should clear the airport within 30-1:20 hours and we will be waiting there with your name on the Pristine Nepal Treks name board.

 

We will then drive the 7 km to Thamel (30-minutes) to your hotel where you will meet your trekking guide. We will brief you regarding your Annapurna Poon Hill trek and if you need any trekking gear, we will help to arrange it. Normally, we provide a sleeping bag and down jacket for trekking, so we will go together to the store to obtain these.

We confirm your trip once you have paid a deposit of 20-30% through our online system and now it’s like to settle your remaining balance. Our bank takes 3.5% of online payments and charges 3.5 to 4% for card payments so we request people to pay the remaining balance in cash. 

Annapurna & Poon Hill Panorama trek starts with an interesting and exciting scenic drive to Pokhara. The journey will lead to the past farm villages and towns with amazing views of mountains.

After reaching Pokhara you will transfer to your hotel near the pristine and beautiful Phewa Lake where most of the nice hotels are located.

Breakfast

Today you will have a short drive of two hours to Nayapul to begin our trek passing lovely Bhirethati village located in Modi River.

After reaching there, we will walk through farm villages coming across trekkers, mules, and donkeys. Similarly, after reaching Tikhedhunga, we will have an overnight stay in a nice lodge after a pleasant day walk.

Today we will climb on stone steps to reach Ulleri village, a moderate size Magar village with typical traditional Nepalese style slated roofs built of mud/stones.

But nowadays, they are also influenced by modern designing. After reaching here, we will walk to a pristine and cool rhododendron, pine forest area to reach Ghorepani village, located on a high ridge within beautiful rhododendron trees.

This village is populated by Poon people of Magar tribe, a famous and popular spot for Poon Hill view after a short Hike.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Early before the sunrise, we will hike to the top at Poon Hill to catch the striking sunrise over a range of Himalayan peaks. It is a view with the 7th highest Dhaulagiri-10th highest Annapurna with a range of peaks including world 8th highest Manaslu with towering Machhapuchare peak “Fish Tail”.

After an enjoyable and exciting time with eye-catching views from Poon Hill, we will head back to Ghorepani and continue uphill walk for an hour. And then we will walk downhill into a gorge through the cool forest to reach at Tadapani for an overnight stop.

With an amazing view of Annapurna with Fish Tail peak; walk leads through a lovely forest and then downhill on a winding path to Ghandruk village for lunch. You will have a view of Annapurna South, Huinchuli and towering Mt. Machhapuchare “Fish Tail”.

After a nice break at Ghandruk, we will walk downhill on stone steps reaching Phedi between high hills of Landruk and Ghandruk near raging Modi River. From here, after crossing a bridge, it’s a short uphill climb to reach another large village at Landruk.

After a short rest with astounding views, our walk will be easier to reach Tolka village for an overnight stop with grand views of Annapurna South and Huinchuli.

6 hours
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

It is an hour or less climb into the cool forest to reach at Pitam Deurali at 2,100 meters high, offering grand views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Huinchuli, Mt. Machhapuchare and of Ghandruk village.

From Deurali, it’s downhill through a forest to Pothana village. Reaching here, we will take rest enjoying fantastic views of snowcapped peaks. At last, we will continue our last day walk into the cool forest with last downhill to Phedi a scenic and pristine spot located on large meadows with parallel views of Annapurna and Manaslu range of mountains.

Our final walk will lead downhill to the road, heading at Phedi for the drive back to picturesque Pokhara.

Today, you will head back to Kathmandu taking a tourist bus. After reaching Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel at Thamel. You will take a rest at your hotel in Kathmandu.
