Everest Base Camp Chola Pass trek - 16 Days

Why Everest Base Camp Chola Pass trek?

Everest Base Camp Chola Pass Trek is the most thrilling adventure in Nepal. With an altitude of 5,420m, Chola pass is higher than the Everest Base Camp which makes it more challenging. You can experience Sherpa cultures & traditions, panorama view of Himalayas, Glaciers lakes, Chola Pass, and reach Everest base camp on this trip.

You may know, Everest base camp trek is the most popular trekking destination in the world. But most of the routes are always the same when trekking to Everest Base Camp. However, if you look at this package then it’s a new route through Chola pass.

Among all the popular three passes, Chola pass is one of the popular passes in the Everest region loved by travelers. Normally, EBC trek will take 14 days to complete on average whereas Chola Pass will take 16 days on average. With only 2 days extra in your itinerary, you can enjoy this wonderful and amazing trip which is new and best than other treks.

EBC via Chola Pass routes:

First of all, while coming to Nepal, your day 1 will be an airport pick up and the next day usually has Lukla flight. Up to 5 days, you will have the same itinerary as other packages of Everest Base Camp i.e. Lukla to Phakding and then Namche Bazar. Only from the 5th day, you will have your real adventure begin from Namche Bazar to Dhole.

Likewise, EBC Chola Pass trek can be done either from Gokyo Lake or from Lobuche. Normally, people go to Everest Base Camp through Gokyo Lake first & then Chola pass. And to reach this Chola pass, we have to trek from Thangnak which will take up to 4 hours only. It is a little hard from Thangnak to reach Chola Pass 5,420m.

Before trekking to Thangnak, you will have a one night stay at Gokyo and a short hike to Gokyo Ri on the next day. Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Ri are the big attractions before reaching the Chola pass. There you can witness 3 beautiful lakes among 5 lakes while trekking, where Gokyo Lake is a beautiful Lake situated over 4,790m above sea level.

Similarly, you can have beautiful 360° views including Mt. Everest 8,848m, Mt. Lhotse 8,516m, Makalu 8,481m, Mt.Cho Oyu 8,201m and many 7,000m and 6,000m mountains.

At the top of the Chola pass, you have to be a little cautious because of slippery. After high Pass, you will then trek to Everest Base Camp through Lobuche. Obviously, the main highlights of this trip are the EBC and Chola pass. However, you can hike to Kalapathar which can be an alternative option for another great view of Mt. Everest.  After reaching EBC and Kalapathar, it is all the way down to Lukla to finish your Everest base camp Chola Pass trek.
