Why Ama Dablam base Camp with EBC trek?

First of all, Ama Dablam base camp with EBC trek is designed for those people who like to have a new way to reach Everest Base Camp. This new trek can be completed within 15 days. When trekking to Everest Base Camp, everyone can see the beautiful mountains in their way where Ama Dablam is one of them. That is why this trek is designed to lead your way to the base of Mt Ama Dablam and see it even close.

Actually, Mt Ama Dablam is one of the most beautiful mountains in the world located in the Everest region. This mountain is widely famous among Everest climber and they prefer to climb Mt Ama Dablam first before Mt Everest. Ama Dablam is with an altitude of 6,838m above the sea level and its base camp is 4,570m above the sea level. Similarly, Ama Dablam base camp (ADBC) 4,570m offers a great view of the Everest Himalaya region.

This trek is similar to Everest Base Camp trek but with an extra day to reach Ama Dablam base camp, it is very unique. Unfortunately, very few trekkers have gone to Ama Dablam base camp because it’s new to them. Therefore, don’t miss the chance to trek to the most popular base camps in Nepal in one package.

Routes of Ama Dablam base camp with EBC trek:

As usual, after your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be picked by one of our members on time. The next day will be your flight to Lukla with a beautiful scenic flight above the mountains. Crossing Namche Bazar, it’s a one-day hike to Pangboche village which will take up to 7 hours. You can go directly to Pangboche village from Namche Bazar instead of stopping at Tyangboche also. It’s only three to four hours hike from Pangboche to Ama Dablam and two to three hours to go back to Pangboche. You can say that it is an acclimatization day also where you will train your body. After that trek again continues in the main trail of EBC trek from Pangboche.

You will have a first acclimatization day at Namche Bazar with an altitude of 3,440m to adjust your body with the atmosphere. Likewise, Ama Dablam base camp day is also like acclimatization day which will take four hours to reach & 2-3 hours to return. That is why you have to stay at Pangboche for 2 days.

After the successful attempt in Ama Dablam base came with an EBC trek, you can have a short hike on Kalapathar. Kalapathar is very best for its panoramic view of the Himalayas including Mt Everest. You can see the Mt Everest very close from the top of Kalapathar. So, wear your thick caps and jackets because it’s very cold in Kalapathar and the wind blows very hard.

After the last stay in Pheriche 4,200m, you will then return back following the same route that you came from to Namche Bazar.  From there, it almost descends all the way to Lukla. You will then have the last stay in this region on your 13th day and the next day; you will fly back to Kathmandu.

Best time to do Ama Dablam base camp with EBC trek:

The best time to do Ama Dablam base camp with Ebc trek is in the Autumn season and spring season. It is not recommended to trek at the time of Jan-Feb because the weather gets bad. It’s very risky to do trekking in winter and monsoon season.

MonthAverage TemperatureSeasonsWeathers
March 19-June 2015°C at Day and -10°C at nightSpring seasonWarm at day, clear sky.
June 21- Sep 2217°C at daytime & 5°C at nightSummer seasonToo much fog/mist. Slippery roads.
Sep 23- Dec 2120°C at day & -10°C at nightAutumn seasonDry winds, warm and clear sky
Dec 22- March 2015°C at day and -17°C at nightWinter seasonheavy snowfalls possibilities, extreme cold at night.

Some of the best tips to enjoy your stay:

At the time of acclimatization day on Namche bazar, it is recommended to have a hike or explore the Bazar. If you get lucky to stay in Namche Bazar on Saturday then you can go check out the market. Because every Saturday, there opens a big market place selling different kinds of stuff at a cheap price. You can taste many unique foods in there which is very tasty. Most of the peoples think that it is very expensive here but to be true its’s not different than Kathmandu price.

Similarly, you will have wifi facility during your trip but rather than using your phone, you can play cards with your teams also. Most of the tourists love playing cards because they find it very fun during the trek. Or you can play different games with the team also.

Also, make lots of videos to keep it a memory and don’t forget to capture every moment during your trip. You will encounter lots of new things on this trip that you can’t find at other places. That is why you have to keep it your precious memory of your life.

The trekking guide will come to your hotel early in the morning for Lukla flight. It is only 30 minutes flight from Kathmandu. Sometimes in a busy season, you should fly to Lukla from Ramechhap due to the high air traffic of Kathmandu airport.

Ramechhap is only 4 hours driving distance from Kathmandu. Normally you can fly to Lukla from Kathmandu.

Hilary Bridge and steep part before Namche Bazar are considered as a hard part of this trekking due to its steep uphill.

It will take approximately 6 hours to trek in this second day of trekking to reach to Namche Bazar. Namche Bazar is well known Sherpa village as an entrance point of Everest region. This place is famous for its weekly opened market. Nowadays it offers beautiful hotels, lodges, bars, restaurants, trekking gears shops, art gallery, banks, and many more.

Day 4
Trek to Khumjung village 3,790m – 04 hours

Normally every trekker stops at Namche Bazar at least two nights for acclimatization.

They explore Syangboche 3,830m for Mt. Everest’s view and come back to Namche Bazar in acclimatization day. But we recommend going to Khumjung village 3,790. It’s just approximately 4 hours walking distance behind Syngboche from Namche Bazar and really beautiful Sherpa village.

Namche Bazar is becoming more touristic and busy too. You will first climb Syngboche 3,830m then walk down to Khumjung which is no risk for altitude sickness too. Especially it is not recommended to go more than 600m for an overnight stay to adopt elevation.

Exploring real Sherpa village will be amazing too. Likewise, this village also has beautiful lodges and guest houses.

Day 5
Trek to Pangboche 4,000m – 07 hours

After a pleasant stay at Khumjung village, your morning walk starts a bit downhill to Lausasa. Lausasa is on the main trail of Everest base camp trek. It is about 3 hours far from Namche Bazar. But for us, from Khumjung village, it takes less than an hour.

It is all downhill to Phungi Thanga 3,250m. From Phungi Thanga, you should climb up to Tengboche 3,860m which is considered a hard part for this day.

You can have a lunch stop at Tengboche and similarly, you can visit the famous Tengboche (Tyangboche) monastery. From here you goanna have bit downhill to Deboche 3,810m and almost flat for an hour before climbing to Pangboche 4,000m. You need to climb uphill about 30 minutes to Pangboche from the Riverside.

Pangboche 4,000m is another beautiful Sherpa village. You will stay here for two nights.

Acclimatization day; hike to Nagarjuna hill 5,100m & back to Dingboche for overnight – 05 hours

This place is 4,400m above sea level. It offers two different places to explore in acclimatization day. One is Chhukung village 4,830m and the other is Nagarjun hill 5,100m. It will be helpful if you go to one of them.

Nowadays, most people attempt Nagarjun hill 5,100m. They test their ability for Everest base camp on this mountain. It does not take that long day too. You need to hike 3 to 4 hours to go up and two hours roughly to go down to Dingboche. Afternoon will be free for rest.

Day 9
Trek to Lobuche 4,940m – 06 hours

From today, you will have high altitude trekking. It is an easy trail to walk to Lobuche 4,940. First, about three hours will be easy due to its gradual flat mountain with a great view of beautiful mountains.

There is a short unstable trail nearby Thukla 4,600m due to fast pace river. And you have to climb up to Lobuche pass 4,870m. This pass is popular for its cemetery of mountaineers. From here, it will take an hour to reach Lobuche 4,940m with just gradual flat.
